After nearly losing its workers’ compensation insurance coverage due to numerous expensive employee claims resulting from patient handling, an ergonomics assessment identified numerous work practices and equipment options for an ambulance district’s paramedics and EMTs. After implementing these work practices and placing improved equipment on ambulances and fly cars, the District reduced its patient-handling related workers’ compensation claims by 95%.
